Landfill Gas Systems

LFG can be utilized for energy production through a number of methodologies:

  • As fuel for internal combustion engines or turbines for the production of electricity
  • As a replacement for natural gas for utilization as boiler fuel
  • Processed to high Btu gas comparable to natual gas and
  • Conversion into LNG for utilization as vehicle fuel

Existing technology and economics support the utilization of LFG as fuel for internal combustion engines and boilers or for the conversion into high Btu gas. While the technology for the conversion of LFG into LNG exists, management has not seen evidence that it is economical at this time.

Each method for the gas collection and conversion is comprised of three fundamental components:

  • Gas collection system and backup flare
  • Gas treatment system
  • Energy recovery system
