Landfill Gas to Electrical Energy
Electricity is generated as gas-fueled engines or turbines drive electrical generators that produce electricity. The internal combustion engines are designed to operate efficiently on medium Btu gas and, as such, minimum cleanup of the LFG is required other then the removal of condensate. The processing and generating equipment are located on the landfill property although not on the landfill itself. The electricity is used to power on-site plant loads or metered and sold to utilities through LMP or under long-term contracts to utilities.
